SUMMARY An object of the present invention is to provide an improved earthing device for a vehicle, especially for a heavy vehicle such as a truck or a bus.
This and other objects are achieved with the grounding device specified in the appended claims.
Accordingly, a grounding device is provided which provides a ground connection connector in a vehicle. The earthing device consists of a first part which is adapted to be inserted completely into a second part and the entire axial extent by means of a tool. The second part is expandable when the first part is inserted into the second part and the earthing device is constructed in a material that is hard enough to be able to expand into the vehicle frame.
The invention also relates to a vehicle which comprises a grounding device in accordance with the above description.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The present invention will now be described in more detail by way of non-limiting example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: - Fig. 1 shows a grounding device, and - Fig. 2 shows a grounding device mounted in place in a vehicle frame.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION Fig. 1 shows a grounding device 1. The grounding device 1 constitutes a composite part which comprises a first upper part 2 which is inserted into a second lower part 3 during assembly which causes the lower part to expand. The first part 2 has an outer surface which is designed to lock against the inner surface of the second part 3. The inside of the first part 2 is designed to fit a suitable tool, which during assembly is used for inserting the first part 2 into the second part 3. In accordance with an embodiment, the inside of the first part is designed to fit a blind rivet tool. The inside of the first part can e.g. be threaded.
The second part 3 has an outside which is designed to expand towards the sides in the holes of the vehicle frame. For example, the outside of the other part may have ridges or other types of protruding parts. The inside of the second part is designed to fit around the first part.
The second part further comprises a lower part which constitutes an electrical connection contact when the earthing device is mounted in the hole of the vehicle frame. Fig. 2 shows the earthing device 1 depicted in Fig. 1 when it is mounted in a hole in the vehicle frame 5. When mounted in a hole in the frame, the earthing device expands, which provides a good electrical connection to the vehicle frame and acts as an earth conductor. As a result, the electrical connector 4 of the earthing device 1 constitutes a good earth connection.
The grounding device described herein is cheaper to manufacture, easier to assemble and also has better electrical properties than conventional grounding devices used today.
The grounding device can, for example, be designed as a Quicksert. However, Quicksert is designed for use in thermoplastics and is not suitable or designed for use as a grounding device mounted in a vehicle frame.
The grounding device is constructed of a relatively hard electrically conductive material, which means that when the first part is inserted into the second part, the second part expands into the vehicle frame. According to a 533 'IEB -4_ design, the earthing device can be manufactured in a material that has good electrical properties and good corrosion resistance. For example, the earthing device can be made of steel with a coating that is free of chromium 6 (Cr-G). Consequently, the earthing device 1 is placed in a hole in the vehicle frame during assembly. The first part is inserted into the second part by means of e.g. a blind rivet tool, with which the second part is caused to expand and fixed in the frame.
The grounding device 1 can be easily mounted in a frame by means of only one mounting step as it can be mounted from one side by means of a blind rivet tool or similar tool.

Claims (4)
[1] 1. A grounding element (1) for providing a ground terminal (4) in a vehicle, characterizedby a first part (2) adapted to be inserted into a second part (3) by a tool, the second partbeing expandable upon insertion of the first part into the second part, the grounding element being fonned by a material harder than the frame of a vehicle to expand into said frame.
[2] 2. The grounding element according to claim 1, characterized in that the groundingelement is made of a material having good electrical properties and good corrosion resistance.
[3] 3. The grounding element according to claim 2, characterized in that the grounding element is made of steel having a Cr-6 free coating.
[4] 4. A vehicle having a frame provided With at least one grounding element according to any of claims 1 - 3.
